Composition

Digital illustration, ART 265: Design Studio I

The assignment was to draw found objects from the yard and arrange them using the rule of three. I was inspired by the Japanese style of ikebana to make an asymmetric composition. Made in ArtStudio Pro.

Illustration: a grayscale root, a white flower and a serrated leafy sprig arranged across a mostly empty white page.

Process

01 Thumbnails
Fifteen portrait thumbnails arranging a seed pod, a flower and a leafy sprig in different positions. Fifteen landscape thumbnails arranging a seed pod, a flower and a leafy sprig in different positions.
02 Drafts
Composition draft: a thin vertical root with the flower at top right and a sprig at bottom right. Composition draft: the diagonal root, flower and sprig close to the final arrangement.
